VIRTUALLY PRIDE

9.webp

Pride Disability Services offers a flexible hybrid support model that enables individuals to access support through phones, computers, tablets, and social media platforms—often for the very first time. Our support staff assist participants to confidently engage with technology, build digital literacy, and strengthen social media and communication skills, supporting greater participation in LGBTQIA+ and gender diverse communities.

We recognise that many people experience barriers to connection within the broader Australian community, including difficulty engaging in social events, learning new skills, accessing enjoyable activities, or maintaining health, fitness, and wellbeing routines. These challenges can contribute to social isolation and impact overall wellbeing. Virtually Pride helps reduce these barriers by enabling individuals from all walks of life to connect, engage, and participate with others across Australia.

What are the benefits of Virtual Support?

Virtual support offers a safe and accessible alternative for those who may find face-to-face services challenging. While the delivery method is online, the quality, consistency, and outcomes of support remain the same. It provides flexibility, comfort, and choice, ensuring individuals can still receive meaningful, person-centred support—without being alone.

What Virtually Pride Offers?

The Virtually Pride Program is a structured online support service designed to build confidence, life skills, and social connection from home. It includes both group and 1:1 sessions focused on social participation, creative expression (such as art, music, film, and digital skills), and practical life skills including communication, daily routines, budgeting, independence, and emotional wellbeing.

Sessions are delivered securely via Zoom or Teams and can be accessed on a phone, tablet, or computer, with flexible scheduling options for both individual and group supports. The program aligns with NDIS funding under 0125 Participate in Community (Core), 0116 Innovative Community Participation, and 0117 Development of Life Skills (Capacity Building).

Virtually Pride provides a safe, LGBTIQ+ inclusive environment that removes travel barriers while supporting meaningful engagement, structured skill development, and real-world confidence to help achieve NDIS goals and community participation.

How Virtual Support Works?

Once an expression of interest is submitted to Pride Disability Services, our Intake Manager will guide you through a smooth onboarding process, including information gathering and setting up suitable virtual supports based on your needs. We collaborate closely with you and your Support Coordination team to align supports with your NDIS budget and chosen categories. You will also be introduced to selected support staff through a virtual meet and greet, ensuring comfort and compatibility before services begin.

Although virtual supports do not replace in-person connection, they provide greater flexibility, choice, and control in accessing the right support at the right time—whether you are in metropolitan, regional, or rural Victoria. Sessions are designed to feel personal and engaging, allowing you to check in, work toward your NDIS goals, and receive consistent, high-quality support in a way that suits your lifestyle.

✈️ NDIS Travel – Overseas & Interstate

Travelling Interstate (Within Australia)

You can continue to use your NDIS funding while travelling anywhere within Australia. This means your supports can continue in line with your NDIS plan, either with your usual support worker (if available) or a local provider while you are away. All supports must remain reasonable, necessary, and directly related to your disability needs.

Travel & Costs
Provider travel costs (including labour and non-labour components) may apply if a support worker travels with you. Activity-based transport can also be used where it forms part of your support delivery. All travel-related arrangements are discussed and agreed in advance within your service agreement to ensure clarity and transparency.

Travelling Overseas

You can also travel overseas while on the NDIS, however there are limits on how funding can be used. In most cases, supports can continue for up to approximately 6 weeks, provided they remain reasonable, necessary, and disability-related.

NDIS funding does not cover flights, accommodation, visas, travel insurance, or any holiday or personal expenses. It also does not cover long-term overseas support unless specifically approved. You may choose to travel with a support worker if agreed, however only the support hours may be funded, while all travel-related costs must be privately funded.

Planning Ahead
Before travelling, it is recommended that you speak with your Support Coordinator or provider, review your service agreement, plan your supports in advance, and ensure arrangements are safe, compliant, and aligned with your NDIS plan. You may also need to notify the NDIA depending on your circumstances.

Our Approach
We support you to plan your travel in a way that keeps your supports clear, flexible, and aligned with your NDIS goals while ensuring full compliance with funding guidelines.

Key Takeaway
You can travel while on the NDIS—your funding is designed to support your disability needs wherever you are, not to fund the travel itself.
